Guest post by Siobhan Muir – To Boldly Go…Where?

I’m so happy to be here today. I met Nara Malone four years ago when I picked up a copy of one of her books and loved it so much, I had to message her on Facebook. It’s been a full four years since that moment and we’ve connected in writing as well as in OpenSim, the virtual world, bringing our tales to a more visual plane.
Early on when Nara asked me if I’d like to help out with Nara’s Nook and set up a small parcel in Greyville, I had no idea what OpenSim or SecondLife was. She showed me how to get an avatar and find clothes and hair, and how to walk around. It was a little daunting because I’m one of those kinds of people who likes to screw up alone. I like to work out the kinks and mistakes on my own time before I put myself in front of others.
Things have changed since those early days in the Nook. We now have several other authors and artists building parcels and regions there, and I’m not nearly as shy as I was. See? I worked out my mistakes and kinks, lol.
This week I released a new book called The Ivory Road: A Walk in the Sand about a young woman who accidentally steps across a dimensional boundary and ends up in a whole new world. One she’s rather ill-equipped to survive. Fortunately, she meets the hero who at least gives her a hand a surviving. But it’s not always easy and she can’t just hide out and learn to make mistakes alone. She has a whole audience with her.
Here’s the blurb:

The adventure of Ivory’s lifetime might just be the death of her…
When it comes to make believe, A-list actress Ivory is a professional. But when a desert hike takes her across a dimensional rift, her real-life self, Iliana Rory, must separate fantasy from reality. The man she swears is the costar in her next movie might share the same surname and appearance, but there are no sets in this Mr. Crowe’s world, no props, and no director to yell “cut” before blood is spilled.

With a fortune in stolen treasure and the forces of the Knalish army hot on their trail, Brandon Crowe and his partner, Ahmad, must cross a desert neither of them knows well. Mistaken for their guide, Iliana seizes any chance to stay ahead of the army and survive in this new world.

Adventure straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster might be on Iliana’s bucket-list, but she never dreamed there’d be the real possibility of death when the end credits roll. A Walk in the Sand is the first story in the four part serial recounting Iliana’s journey along the Ivory Road.

What kind of adventure is on your bucket list?

Good morning, Siobhan & Nara! I'm so impressed by what you ladies and your friends are doing in both the real and virtual world(s). Siobhan, your book sounds amazing. Kind of Lawrence of Arabia (?) meets Alice in Wonderland, eh? Definitely going on my TBR list. As for Bucket Lists, I'm not the truly adventuresome type, but driving cross country on Route 66 might be close enough? Good luck with The Ivory Road!

Thanks so much, Denise. Yeah, Ivory certainly finds herself in "wonderland" of sorts. I've driven a lot of Route 66 and it's worth the drive. There are some cool places and great scenery along the way. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
