Working in the Wizard’s Lair

I’m working in the wizard’s lair today.

It’s going about how you’d expect.

I’ve always built 3D scenes to help immerse me in the story worlds of my novels. This is the first time I felt like I had the skills to tell a full story in 3D. Countless books on story-craft paint the author’s task as a personal quest taken on the path to discovering the character’s story. I’ve landed as a living person in castle full of untold dead-men’s tales. I’m not sure I want to know where this quest leads any more than I want to know what that orange stuff is that spilled out of the bottle I broke.

Looking at the wizard’s pets, Peeper (the eyeball) and Fluffy (the dragon) I have to ask myself if I want to go deeper into the mind that thinks this stuff up. It’s hard to imagine how all this can end well, but it’s that very reason I have to dive in and see where this leads. I never could resist the hunt for a happy ending.

Wish me luck.
